Imagine the enablement of a high definition 3D physical map, and then overlaying the data from a variety of sensors. Then, view correlations between cars & people, drones, consumers & advertising, businesses ,and more … enter the autonomous World from HERE.
This year at the massive CES conference (think 150,000+ in attendance) HERE shared how they are building an OS and an Open location platform to enable the autonomous World. The key here though is the building of partnerships with the likes of Vodafone, SAP, Bosch, Continental IBM… all help building the platform, bringing their data into a sharing economy World. No one company is able to do this on their own according to HERE CEO, Edzard Overbeek.
Walking the massive exhibition halls at CES, it was readily apparent that the autonomous World is upon us. There were numerous auto companies present and there was a number of “autonomous vehicles” dotting the show floor. These vehicles boasting sophisticated communication systems, incredibly high-resolution data sensors and more technology than one can ever imagine inside a “simple” automobile. According to the CES records, the vehicle technology showcases at the event boasted over 170 exhibiting companies. These included several major OEM makers including BMW, Ford, Honda, Kia, Mercedes, Nissan, Toyota etc…
Some of the vehicle technology present at CES, much of it reliant upon location technology and even a location technology platform, included self driving vehicles, artificial intelligence for vehicles, LiDAR sensors, collision avoidance systems, sophisticated navigation and routing, and much more. Of particular interest at CES was the presence of the Virgin hyperloop-one (see also link below). This high-speed transportation solution aims to connect people and cities in a futuristic-like setting. Imagine traveling in a small tunnel at 200+ mph going from L.A to Las Vegas in less than a half hour! Hyperloop One is a reality and is expected to be in place with a functional route someplace on Earth by around 2021 – stay tuned!! Note, Hyperloop One is powered by HERE technology and is being tested at a facility just outside Las Vegas. Read more in this Here360 blog post

It was very clear after seeing and hearing from HERE insiders that the HERE location platform aims to be open and is made possible by partnerships!
