6 Personality Types That Sabotage Brainstorming Efforts
Group brainstorming is a collaborative idea generation process that (theoretically) gets great results. Yet it takes only a couple of bad seeds to turn these sessions into unpleasant and unproductive nightmares – you know this, imagine… You’re in a meeting, brainstorming ideas, and the process is hijacked by disruptive individuals who undermine collaborative efforts. Have you been there? Mitchell Rigie and Keith Harmeyer, coauthors of SmartStorming, identify the most common offenders. Any one of these problematic personalities can undermine the focus and collaborative efforts of a group:

Steve Balmer’s Rationale and Plans for the Nokia Devices & Services acquisition
In case you haven’t seen details of it yet or heard about it, here’s Steve Balmer’s plans for how the Nokia acquisition will be integrated into Microsoft. For the most part, Nokia teams and leaders will remain in their role and integrated into new positions within Microsoft, albeit reporting under Microsoft execs, for example, Jo Harlow of Nokia will continue to run the smart devices team. Marissa Mayer and Yahoo! design team kill a week-end creating a “new” logo
I’m not sure if you Yahoo! or not (honestly I can’t recall the last time I hit the site) but apparently a few of you do and apparently Marissa Mayer has been doing some “great” stuff there also – beyond getting tons of recognition via social media I honestly am unsure what she’s done since taking over the helm but she has created some buzz there and apparently, according to stats Yahoo! traffic is swelling. Something she has done recently is she created a new logo with a design team (Actually they simply picked a new color it seems – actually, a color they used by in 1995) and she also created a video about the process (think more buzz)… oh, and she also penned a lengthy blog on the process as well… If you aren’t familiar with Yahoo! then I suggest you Google them ;0)
Consider having a BCIT GIS student undertake a project or a practicum
The current year of BCIT GIS students started their classes the first week of September. Part of their course load is to locate a sponsor, who will undertake a project or practicum with them in the January – May 2014 timeframe. Would you consider having a BCIT student undertake a project or a practicum with you? The student(s) can help you with a project that you may not have time to develop, or can work on your daily mapping needs as you require. From the program… “Our goal is to have all our students signed up with a sponsor by the end of October at the latest.”
