Wrap up a Historic Map For The Holidays
Here’s a cool holiday gift idea from the gang at Amerisurv… historic maps! These are ideal for the map lover, for the boss, or for the living room… yes, I have one of these (a sweet State of Florida map) hanging in my living room! Printed on acid free paper and they have a genuine classic look and feel and they get loads of comments. These are also a great way to dress up a conference booth display or meeting room. Offline Mobile GIS Video – Running ArcGIS Mobile With no Wi-FI access
A video from Rory at WebMapSolutions gives a running example of using ArcGIS mobile in a disconnected environment. From Rory – You might be wondering how you access GIS layers when your mobile has no Wi-FI access. Well wait no more, the solution is at hand. The demo below shows ArcGIS being used offline. Before you open source folk get upset, this solution could also be applied to a Geoserver/Openlayers/OpenScales solution. The app shows storage of base map tiles and a shapefile on the actual mobile device. In offline mode, we show loading this data. Very cool

Business Value of OGC Standards Survey – You Could Win an iPad2
A reminder comes our way via our friends at the OGC as they ask the Geo industry to take part in a survey (note, there’s 2 separate surveys, one for technology users, the other for technology and solution providers and consultants). About the survey – The OGC Business Value Committee will use a summary of the results to help the OGC better understand the value of the OGC’s open standards and improve its programs for geospatial standards development, compliance testing and outreach. The survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Individual responses will be seen only by the researchers and OGC staff. The researchers will summarize the data gathered from the survey, removing all references to individual responses, and make the summary available to OGC Business Value Committee members. An executive summary will be provided to survey respondents.
To take the survey, if you are a technology user, visit http://uncc.surveyshare.com/s/AQAIJDC. If you are a technology provider (a vendor or a system integrator) or a consultant, visit http://uncc.surveyshare.com/s/AQAIZBC.
