Here’s a cool holiday gift idea from the gang at Amerisurv… historic maps! These are ideal for the map lover, for the boss, or for the living room… yes, I have one of these (a sweet State of Florida map) hanging in my living room! Printed on acid free paper and they have a genuine classic look and feel and they get loads of comments. These are also a great way to dress up a conference booth display or meeting room. Check out the vast collection HERE

A video from Rory at WebMapSolutions gives a running example of using ArcGIS mobile in a disconnected environment. From Rory – You might be wondering how you access GIS layers when your mobile has no Wi-FI access. Well wait no more, the solution is at hand. The demo below shows ArcGIS being used offline. Before you open source folk get upset, this solution could also be applied to a Geoserver/Openlayers/OpenScales solution. The app shows storage of base map tiles and a shapefile on the actual mobile device. In offline mode, we show loading this data. Very cool
So, you’ve heard all about the new Windows Phone OS, you know, the OS that Nokia has adopted for all their new high end devices moving forward. Well, thanks to a tip via engadget, you can now hit a very cool demo site on your iPhone or Android smartphone and you’ll get a really good idea what its like to be running in the WP mobile environment (like on a Nokia Lumia 800). Very cool stuff! You can hit the emulator by pointing your mobile web browser to http://aka.ms/wpdemo – Image shown was captured using a Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone.

It seems Nokia has done it once again and lit up London with an impressive PR push, this time to kick off officially the launch of Nokia’s first Windows Phone OS smartphone, the Lumia 800 – This is no first time thing for Nokia as I’ve witnessed first-hand the company lighting up the evening sky in San Antonio, Texas at SXSW and in London a couple of year’s ago with the official Ovi Maps push. This time the company outdid themselves with an amazing 4D experience from deadmau5 projected on the Millbank Tower, London with incredible clarity and sound for all to enjoy… check out this video, oh, and see more about the Lumia 800 HERE

A reminder comes our way via our friends at the OGC as they ask the Geo industry to take part in a survey (note, there’s 2 separate surveys, one for technology users, the other for technology and solution providers and consultants). About the survey – The OGC Business Value Committee will use a summary of the results to help the OGC better understand the value of the OGC’s open standards and improve its programs for geospatial standards development, compliance testing and outreach. The survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Individual responses will be seen only by the researchers and OGC staff. The researchers will summarize the data gathered from the survey, removing all references to individual responses, and make the summary available to OGC Business Value Committee members. An executive summary will be provided to survey respondents.
To take the survey, if you are a technology user, visit http://uncc.surveyshare.com/s/AQAIJDC. If you are a technology provider (a vendor or a system integrator) or a consultant, visit http://uncc.surveyshare.com/s/AQAIZBC.
