Today at the annual BB Love-fest (aka. BlackBerry DevCon), RIM President & CEO,Mike Lazaridis, greeted the crowd and provided the State of RIM address as well as a roadmap for the future which includes the Blackberry 7 lineup of devices and a new developer platform, Blackberry BBX.
In his address which I caught via live stream I picked up on the following tidbits and numbers of interest:
Particularly exciting for developers is the launch of BlackBerry BBX – The BBX platform will include BBX-OS, and will support BlackBerry cloud services and development environments for both HTML5 and native developers. BBX will also support applications developed using any of the tools available today for the BlackBerry PlayBook – including Native SDK, Adobe AIR/Flash and WebWorks/HTML5, as well as the BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps – on future BBX-based tablets and smartphones.

On Wednesday, October 13, 2011 we attended a press conference in Washington D.C. Martin Harriman, Executive VP of ecosystem development and satellite business of LightSquared and Dr. Javad Ashjaee of Javad GNSS were on hand to explain the filtering technology they say has solved the compatibility issue between precision GNSS receivers and LightSquared’s 4G LTE signal. Harriman explained: “A majority of precision devices can be fixed by replacing the external antenna, others will require a factory retrofit, but in every case LightSquared has an affordable and efficient fix”
I’m glad to share this un-boxing of the Samsung Galaxy S II Android (2.3) smartphone, thanks to Virgin Mobile Canada for selecting me to take part as a #vmtester. The Galaxy S II is likely the closest things to the iPhone that you’ll find from an Android enabled smartphone thanks to the large, vibrant touch screen, fast, dual core processor, slim design, internal GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, integrated readers hub (think e-books) and sweet, 8 megapixel camera. I’ll look forward to sharing the experience and you can follow myself and the rest of the Virgin Mobile Canada VM testers who are testing and sharing details about several new smartphone.
