Friday Fun, developer tools and resources for Geo Devs – tips from Google, GeoIQ and Nokia

Some Friday Developer tips… Here’s a tip received from Google Maps Tech evangelist, Mano Marks (via facebook) as his slides from a recent presentation at Google Developer Day 2010 in Moscow titled “New Features in Google Geo” are now available for viewing… enjoy!  Speaking of Google, check out this video from New Orleans showing off the Google Geo Hunt mobile app on Android.

From the cool, GeoGeeky, FortiusOne team in DC, here’s a resource just for developers, the geoIQ Developer portal http://developer.geoiq.com – From the team… Easily leverage the GeoIQ and GeoCommons platform in your own application, mobile and Web development projects. Use this developer portal to access APIs and dev tools, or view the gallery to see how others are using GeoIQ

Finally, for developers or would-be developers interested in developing on Qt (think Nokia & Symbian) a reminder about some free Qt Hands-on Training coming to Chicago, IL – December 6-7, 2010. A great opportunity to get introduced to Qt and get your hands dirty developing for the Nokia N8 – which just hit the shelves at Rogers wireless in Canada this past week.

Exxon Goes Mobile With Fuel Finder App for iPhone

Have I convinced you contractors or consultants that are in need of business opportunities to look hard at the mobile space yet? If you haven’t thought about it yet then you should do so soon, else you’ll simply be watching others pass you by! Case in point, check out Exxon who have always had their handy station finder web service available to the public – a handy webmapping tool (est. 2001) enabling users to quickly locate stations near them – see http://www.exxonmobillocator.com/locator.php.
In keeping up with the times, and their users, Exxon has wisely announced the release of their mobile station finder app (iPhone and iTouch) . The mobile app provides drivers with real-time maps, driving directions and station information for more than 10,000 Exxon and Mobil retail locations across the continental United States. Like many mobile apps though, it appears this one has data that will stop at the 49th parallel! (unconfirmed) – Fuel Finder is available in the iTunes store
