The GIS community has been creating and rolling out fabulous web services (aka webmaps) for years now. So it’s no surprise to see many consultants and developers seeing an uptake in the demand to extend traditional webmapping and related GIS-enabled apps to the [enterprise] mobile space. Today I heard from another company, Cartegraph, who recently developed an interesting Geo-enabled service for the iPhone – enter YourGov.
About the app… Inspired by the Gov 2.0 movement and its emphasis on collaboration, participation, and innovation, Iowa-based Cartegraph developed YourGOV to help citizens easily forward their observations and concerns to local governments. In just three steps, YourGOV users can submit issues – such as such as potholes, fallen trees, vandalism, and street light outages – complete with location, unique details, and photos. Once submitted, YourGOV will automatically deliver requests to the appropriate participating organization.
Cartegraph has plans to make the application available for use on other smartphones, including Blackberry and Droid. Search for YourGov in the iTunes store or see more details in this PR – See news from more companies developing for iPhone HERE
