Via way of the Good Ideas publication I was turned on to a very cool location-aware application (using Google API) that enables us to map the history of Hip Hop. Bronx Rhymes uses a map UI to see hip hop hot spots and discover information about some of the big names in the industry… awesome idea! Using Bronx rhymes users can check out hot spots, view lyrics, and even upload their own rhymes! See more info
A cool new Twitter add-on app has surfaced today called findnfollow (Twitter user @findnfollow) – see http://www.findnfollow.com. Using this clever app, users login using their Twitter user/PW pair (OpenID would have been nice) then they have a couple of options: either find tweeps by tag or tag your own tweets. At first I was a little confused as I “assumed” that my tweets would have been pulled up once I logged in and a clever search fucntion would have determined my common tags (like a cloud), however, users are prompted to select up to 5 main tags that they would like to associate with their tweets – like “GIS”. then you can find tweeps by tag.. ie. search for tweeps tagged with “GIS” and you’ll see a list of twitterers that you can then elect to follow.. quite handy! So far the app is focused on Geospatial Tags although it could easily be rolled out to include much more – I could see that being a huge improvement over the current Twitter search (search.twitter.com)… what a great new app created by @dbouwman. A new spatial clearinghouse at CalAtlas was rolled out today by “The Governator”… The innovative approach to technology, called Cal-Atlas Geospatial Clearinghouse will allow the general public to access maps, data and information that has not previously been accessible on a single site or from a single source. Of interest, CalAtlas is reported to be a portal to help organizations work together on GIS data and share the costs of acquiring imagery and other kinds of geospatial data – make sure you check out the link to download data from CaSil where you’ll find tons of imagery including NAIP, Landsat imagery, DOQQs and much more!
