There’s no question that the GIS industry and Geo technology companies are quite proactive with the geo shwag. No, I’m not bored, this is just something I’ve been wanting to do for some time, so without further hesitation, enjoy this fine collection of GIS / Geo shwag courtesy of some of the fine companies in our industry. Unfortunately over the years (and after a couple of moves) the closet has been cleaned out a couple of times, shirts have been forced out of my closet by the wife and then donated to the thrift store after a couple of year’s wear, several have become car polishing rags (sorry about that!) a couple have been lost (I leave something behind in the hotel on every trip it seems) and one year Rich and I actually donated a couple of dozen to homeless guys in San Diego! Many of these items have been seen by countless people as I’ve toured many cities in numerous countries, frequently sporting a geo look as I walk about or sit in airports waiting for a flight. Enjoy this fine collection of wearable marketing material… if yours shwag isn’t here feel free to contact me to arrange to have it added to the collection ;0) So which one is your favorite or, if you have a favorite GIS/Geo shirt who’s it from?? What works best for shwag as far as bang for your buck?? I think long sleeves and black T’s are the way to go, getting more wear out in public and they seem to last longer than the basic white Beefy-T… cool sayings like “check out my shmapplets” and without the L its BS are definite winners for poularity!

Nokia viNe – share your mobile multi-media and experiences on a map – Beta ending
A note from Nokia reps this week informs me that the Nokia viNe application will be rolled out to Joe public very soon… possibly even this week. viNe is a web service that enables users of the application to share their journeys, along with media collected along the way, with others. As a long-time Sports Tracker user, N95 enthusiasts, and evangelist of all things mobile and geospatial, I was provided with a pre-release version of viNe – details and a complete “How To” install and use the application are provided in this article … enjoy! Enter Nokia viNe 101 – Please note, for the purpose of testing I was running Nokia viNe which came pre-installed on a Nokia N82 supplied by Nokia. As of today I am now running viNe on a Nokia N95 8GB without any issues or problems. For the full article and complete viNe “How to” see:

Another LBS Industry recap released today
It’s Wednesday and that means another LBSzone Alert was published today – From Today’s LBSzone Alert… To begin, loads of updates out of the Nokia Research camp recently, case in point, just this week Nokia and partners NAVTEQ and UC Berkeley announced a Large Scale Public Pilot project Mobile Millenium) designed to Gather and Analyze Traffic Information Using GPS-Enabled Mobile Devices. The pilot will involve volunteers in Northern California who will collect and study traffic data received from GPS-enabled mobile devices, such as the Nokia N96, Nokia N95 and Nokia E71. The pilot will operate over four to six months and up to 10 000 members of the public community can participate. One issue though is that you have to wonder just how many N95, 96 and E71 users there are in that part of the World? Regardless, this is the future (the NOW in this case) … think user-generated content!
Of interest to users of the popular WHERE mobile app and WHERE widgets, application users can now enjoy WHERE Vision! Think seeing what other users are doing. To view the entire newsletter see HERE
