ESRI Mapping via facebook and the Make A Map video? You betcha!

Another cool, Geo social media story to share as we’ve recently stumbled onto the cool, free, map service from ESRI being made available to users of facebook. Enter the ESRI Facebook Demographic Map Application where you can easily select from a variety of pre-defined variables and get a map back in return. The app is relatively basic so far, however, just think of the possibilities! A tip-off about this app came via an ESRI Twitter account (naturally). Check it out at http://apps.facebook.com/esrimaps/ and while you’re on facebook please consider becoming a fan of the GISuser facebook page at http://facebook.com/GISusers

ESRI Make A Map is available as an online web service where users can easily and quickly create and share a simple map. Check out this video demo that I created also posted below… enjoy!

  • Facebook API newbie
So...who will be the first to figure out how to use the Facebook APIs and mash them with the ESRI code to map their friends?
  • Actually, this service isn't just limited to Facebook users... it's for anyone with an internet connection! ESRI has posted the link on their main page to the site, which is literally titled "Mapping for Everyone." Here's the link: http://www.esri.com/software/mapping_for_everyo...

In fact, the maps made from their "Make a Map" page can be embedded on any web application for free. And thus, the mapping world continues to evolve...

Cool idea. Still needs a lot of work. But, it's good to see ESRI pushing out into social media.
