Android OS getting a boost from Motorola Droid and Augmented Reality coming on!

It looks like the Android OS is finally going to be getting a little recognition this week (and well deserved) enter the Motorola Droid which will be available later this week.. I’m quite amazed really that Motorola is the one creating the stir and also surprised that it almost seems like Joe consumer is under the impression that the Android powered mobile is something news… go figure! I’ve been a user of the G1 and now have a MyTouch (T-mobile) in the portfolio, but I have to admit the droid looks to be down-right SWEET! Regardless, the Android OS is quite awesome and there’s some fine apps available from the Android Marketplace, particularly some fine location-aware apps and a few cool apps sporting Augmented Reality - a technology I’m really hot on! Note, see this article titled “As smartphones take off–augmented reality becomes more common” which I recently contributed to.

Speaking of Augmented Reality (AR), another player will soon be rolling out an amazing AR app for iPhone.. enter Junaio from metaio, Inc. (Twitter @twitt_AR)… With junaio, end users can visually interact with the world by placing 3D objects into the real world, leaving notes and information about places, and creating cool experiences to share with friends on social media sites like Facebook. Recall, AR can already be found in some popular iPhone (and Android apps) from the likes of Yelp, UrbanSpoon, and Layar.

  • I really like the design of the Motorola Droid. Got mine about 2 days ago.

Love the alarm clock feature with the dock station. Hope they make a new version without the keyboard so it can be thinner. The digital keyboard is good enoug for me.

Navigation is really fast thanks to Android 2.0. Typing is kinda hard on the keyboard because of the 4 way navigation pad that is in the way.

Nah, whatever I think the Droid is awesome and can easily take the iPhone.
