Did-U-Know… There is a difference between a UAV waiver and an airspace authorization. A waiver is needed when a UAV operation needs one or several of the UAV restrictions eased or suspended in a particular instance.
For example, you want to fly a UAV operation at night, or over people. In these situations, the part 107 pilot is required to seek a waiver of those rules for the specific operation.
An airspace authorization is needed when a UAV operation calls for flights close to an airport and within its restricted airspace.

Note, it’s always good to know the rules before you fly, and there’s an app for that! B4UFLY is an easy-to-use smartphone app that helps unmanned aircraft operators determine whether there are any restrictions or requirements in effect at the location where they want to fly.
