This from CyberAlert… Those questioning the value of press releases may wish to consider a recent, small and little-noticed change in Google’s search algorithm. The change, first reported by Reuters, allows press releases to outrank media articles reporting the news. Google increased the number of sources permitted the “In the news,” a section within general search results. Only links from bona fide news sites appeared in the section previously.

Recently released US Topo maps for Florida now feature more trails using data provided by the U.S. Forest Service as well as trail information from other federal, state and private sources. Several of the 1,028 new maps for Florida now display parts of the Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST) and other designated public trails. Further notable upgrades to the new quadrangles include map symbol redesign, enhanced railroad information, and new road source data.

From the company… Web Map Developers are blind when it comes to user interaction on their maps. Most websites use analytics products like Google Analytics, or Mixpanel to track web activity, but surprisingly, user interaction tracking on a map just doesn’t exist. For example, companies like Priceline may not see how many hotels are clicked on, or other cities that you panned through in their map view before you landed on a detailed hotel page. They are essentially blind to how a user interacts with their map.
