Some recent findings on location sharing… The Alohar Mobile Survey Finds 71% of Smartphone Users are Open to Location Sharing Apps; Adoption Driven by Relationship Milestones, Safety and Convenience – amazingly, 71% of smartphone users expressed their openness to mobile applications designed to share their whereabouts with loved one.
Having been to many ball tourneys and evacuated to a car or other shelter, I can really appreciate this app! Weatherbug is continuing with their awesome mobile apps, this time with a cool launch at a fabulous event, where weather updates is always crucial – the LLWS.
Something a little different for you… If you pack anything like I do, you stuff as much in your backpack on your trips and by now you’ve likely over-stuffed it and paid the price with a rip or tear… no worries of that with this bad boy from Ergodyne. So, here it is, foursquare (R8) with a completely new look and feel. I’m still poking around with it and trying to figure out what’s up with the app. I have to admit, it really does feel more personalized, this thanks to the learning about me that the app wants to initiate – right from the get-go after the update you’ll be promoted to tell foursquare all about your likes, I assume so the app can make relevant recommendations.
An interesting update comes our way from the developers of Tripomatic – custom maps for iOS, Android or BlackBerry that focus on the features tourists really appreciate! What’s way cool about this app is that Tripomatic is based on OpenStreetMap and the Mapnik rendering toolkit while the symbology was designed using TileMill software developed by Mapbox.

Yes indeed, recently, at the ESRIUC, Esri business partner, Airbus Defense and Space showed off their newly launched service that enables ArcGIS users to easily task a satellite (Pleiades and SPOT) for data collection over any area of interest. the service is now available through the ArcGIS Marketplace and boasts that users will receive their data within 30-60 days (See also the PR announcement).
