No huge surprise here, however, the numbers seem to qualify what may be the obvious… smartphone end users are becoming more savvy and less likely to be man-handled by leading mobile brands and the carriers! Research from Phoenix Marketing shows that while the Mobile Phone Market has Grown to Near Saturation Level, Customer Loyalty has Shrunk. Interesting to see that over 1/3 of current wireless customers intend on switching service providers in the next year and nearly 2/3 plan on replacing their current mobile device with one from a different manufacturer. A startling 25% of so called service provider “promoters” plan on switching providers in the next year.
The numbers show the following trends:
- About 70% of users are likely to change handset makers – so long to brand loyalty (think Nokia here!)
- Folks are easily persuaded to ditch their carrier with T-Mobile customers the most likely to bail out (over 55% say so)
- Users of devices by Motorola, HTC, and LG are most likely to switch (all over 75%) whereas Apple device users appear to be the most loyal to their brand
