The crowd, community based mapping, citizen participation, and crowd-sourcing… all are hot topics and being considered as valuable resources for many governments and non profits. Not so surprising that a number of community-based platforms and resources are popping up. One such effort is Cura H2O, billed as a Community based water monitoring and management resource. Organizations, governments, and research agencies are partnering up with Cura H2O and leveraging their solution to help manage their resources better. Explorus Data Solutions (a non profit), specializes in open spatial data web solutions and recently built a citizen science water quality data collection app for CURA H20 (http://curah20.com)
The project team is composed of an alliance of partners representing academia, community stewardship organizations, non-governmental environmental organizations (NGOs), government agencies, First Nations communities, public schools, the agricultural community, and the private sector. This project is run out of the Saint Mary’s University Geography Department in Halifax Nova Scotia
