Apple Maps – What’s planned? 3D mapping, StreetView, Obliques…

So, ever since Apple officially lifted the lid off Apple maps at their recent Developer event there’s been loads of speculation as to what Apple maps will look like when it rolls out to iOS users later this year (recall at the event execs commented that Apple is “Doing all the cartography ourselves”). Most recently some sources have hinted that along with the mobile maps platform that the company will also throw their hat into the desktop mapping space – See Business Insider Story

Definitely a likely scenario, particularly when you look back at a couple of acquisitions Apple made recently including their purchase of Canadian company Poly9 (back in 2010) and C3 Technologies (think photo-realistic 3D models – see video below) . You have to think that more buyouts will be looking – Definitely makes you sit back and say hmmmm…
