I’m not sure if this is way cool or rather, a little creepy! Regardless, there’s no questioning that Austin Texas, home of SXSW, does get treated to some very cool technology. Coming in December 2011, startup SceneTap will roll out their social location service to help the local bar scene. What’s interesting is the kind of information the service reports to provide to users. We aren’t talking about a simple venue map, list of bar specials, happy hours and the like, rather, SceneTap uses facial detection technology (anonymous apparently) to generate real-time information about local places. Users will be able to get updates like how busy is a bar, what’s the ratio of males to females, and what’s the average age of people there!
SceneTap users (coming to iOS, web and Android) will have access to the following info:
- breakdowns at venues
- Daily specials and happy hour discounts
- Real-time deals and weekly coupons
- Social commentary and integration with Facebook, Twitter and foursquare
- Ratings, reviews and geo-location functions such as maps and directions
- Additional venue information such as contact info and hours of operation
