Lightsquared has just today responded to the company’s solution to the “GPS issue” in a PR announcement. According to the company, their solution will permit LightSquared to proceed with its business plan, protect the public’s stake in GPS and lay the foundation for the future co-existence of a variety of wireless broadband services and GPS. Regarding the tests… Early test results indicated that one of LightSquared’s 10MHz blocks of frequencies poses interference to many GPS receivers. Test results show this lower block of frequencies is largely free of interference issues with the exception of a limited number of high precision GPS receivers that are specifically designed to rely on LightSquared’s spectrum.
From the company… LightSquared believes that its next-generation, 4G LTE wholesale network can live harmoniously, side-by-side, with GPS users.
Recall also that Esri has recently announced that a special forum will take place at the Survey Summit to address the Lightsquared issue – See Surveyors to Discuss LightSquared Issue at Survey Summit-ACSM Annual Conference

I recently loaded the new free iGPSGIS data collection app for iOS and I must say from the first look that it’s quite robust and very impressive! Besides displaying the GPS coordinates of a geographic location, iGPSGIS also provides a powerful user interface to access the following tasks:
Create sampling grids
Display Google Map as the background map
Collect multi-layer GPS/GIS data
Digitize points, lines and areas
Assign symbols and attributes to Features
View/Edit the collected data
View the area of an enclosed region
