Brent Jones on needing accurate data and who has the most accurate data, the surveyor, the engineer, or the guy with the smartphone? A nice, quick historical look at technology, accuracy, and measurement devices. Brent asks, “What happens when the accuracy of your phone is better than your basemap?” Some great references to building an information/data network, improving accuracy, adn using the power of the crowd. Android App Helps American Heart Association Get People Walking
A clever addition to the Android Market just in time for Get Walking Day… free Walking Paths app enables users to find, tag and “like” more than 2,500 American Heart Association-designated walking paths across the country, or even create and save favorite walking paths using the GPS function as they walk. The app is available now for GPS-enabled Android smartphones – in time for the fifth annual National Start! Walking Day on April 6, when the American Heart Association calls on all Americans to find 30 minutes in their day to walk to improve their heart health. The app will be available for iPhone and iPad users via iTunes on May 1.
Oscar Movie Trivia On A Map
Oh man, I just love maps, and I really dig it when I see the mainstream business world take advantage of a maps and mapping technology to tell their story. Case in point, Venere Travel has used an attractive map to share a story about the Top 10 locations where Oscar winning movies were filmed. Each movie is tagged to a location on a World map and interesting movie trivia and facts are provided for each film. A clever and highly under-used way to tell a story… nice job! This is also a fine example of how small companies, consultants and other mapping/GIS professionals can leverage their talents into some fun work! Cool looking map too… See
