I’m big into monitoring Government spending and major infrastructure projects… oh, I’m also a huge Geo Tech nut, so it’s no wonder that a project like the Canada Top 100 Projects has gotten my attention! Thanks to our friends at Esri Canada we have the low-down on an interesting map-driven resource developed to display maps and convey to the Canadian population where over $96 billion in infrastructure investments in Canada have taken place. This year, ReNew Canada teamed up with ESRI Canada to produce an interactive Web application (http://top100projects.ca/) that maps over $96 billion in infrastructure investments in Canada. The site uses ESRI’s ArcGIS API for Flex (free map viewer based on the Adobe Flex framework) and displays geographic data on a free community basemap on ArcGIS Online (platform hosted by ESRI where users can access high-quality, ready-to-use basemaps and build GIS apps).
From ESRI Canada… “What’s significant about this application is that it shows how geography, GIS and open data can be used to visualize and better explain community concerns (e.g. how stimulus funding for infrastructure projects was spread across the country).”
