Like many of you, particularly you early adopters of foursquare, I’ve become bored with using the service… mainly because foursquare lacks the functionality and features beyond gaming that provide me with anything valuable or useful – although, I will admit that the community surrounding foursquare is a huge perk. Perhaps my attitude will change though now that foursquare has finally added the capability to include a photo along with a checkin – this is something that I’ve longed for forever, particularly since I’m a huge mobile photo nut. Until now I’ve depended on services like Brightkite (now defunct), Pegshot, Gowalla, Yelp, Schmap and others to allow me to “tag” a location with a photo. Should be curious to see how this pans out. Seems Foursquare is going to complement this offering by also adding comment capabilities making the service much more interactive and “sticky”. Your photos will also be available in your history, however, I’m unsure of other archiving tools, most notably, having access to a GeoRSS feed of photos would be huge (flickr and Brightkite do this) enabling you to map your photos in google Earth and even create a cool map at GeoCommons – see details on the Blog
Cool news from some partners also… Photos from Instagram pushed to foursquare will now be check-ins with photos (rather than just check-ins). Sightings on Foodspotting will be check-ins with your food photos. And picplz is the first service to allow check-in photos on both iPhone and Android. Note, Android app update is coming soon!
