Just in time for the 2010 GeoINT event in New Orleans, LA, Seattle-based LizardTech announced the release of version 8 of their flagship image compression software, GeoExpress®. At R 8, GeoExpress enables geotechnology end-users and industry professionals to compress, manipulate, and enhance large raster datasets, including aerial imagery, satellite imagery, and other image and raster data products. In concert with geoExpress 8 is the introduction of MrSID Generation 4 (MG4), the company’s latest format for storing compressed raster data – At MG4, the format adds support for multispectral data, alpha channels, along with much improved image mosaiking.
Some of the improved functionality found with MG4:
- compress up to 255 bands of hyper spectral data
- add “true” transparency via the support of alpha channels
- create transparent or opaque portions of your imagery data
- combine adjacent images with alpha channels into seamless, artifact free mosaics
- enhanced mosaicing and much faster data creation of seamless mosaics
- continued support for lossless compression, color balancing, and raster data manipulation
- MG4 supports hyper spectral imagery and LiDAR point cloud data
- LiDAR compressed MG4 data can be viewed in Merrick MARS, Overwatch LiDAR Analyst, Esri 3D Analyst, and LizardTech’s GeoViewer (free)
