Ok, as you can tell from today’s posts (see below) I’m having some fun with wordle today. Truth be told, I’ve been a fan and user of the service for some time, I just happened to re-discover it again today and decided to think about some uses for it. the tag cloud concept is always loads of fun and can be very useful for us web publishers… for example, what a great complement to an article, a conference report, or even to complement a map. We’ve seen talk today of tag clouds from last night’s State of the union address, indeed we can also easily generate a Wordle from the SOTU transcript, actually I did so right here!
Another interesting use of the Wordle is for a personal Bio. I decided to grab my LinkedIn profile and slap it into a Wordle and discovered some interesting findings. The graphic does provide a quick preview of what I’m all about but what really jumped out at me is what is missing! Indeed such a tool is useful to make it plain and clear as to what’s maybe being overly emphasized and what’s not getting enough attention… pretty darn cool really. All in all, just another useful tool that does a great job of conveying interesting patterns via a visualization – similar to what we do with a GIS really! You can make your own Wordle at Wordle.net
