FortiusOne Mapping Haiti Quake Effects and Relief Efforts

The cool team at FortiusOne (think GeoComons) has shared with us details of their Haiti dashboard – geospatial information resource. From GeoCommons… “we are working with CrisisCommons.org to collect data to support humanitarian relief efforts in Haiti. The dashboard below provides maps illustrating some potentially useful datasets. If you’d like to contribute data to the effort please visit GeoCommons and tag your datasets “haitiquake.”

look for FortiusOne on ABC 7 news tonight in the 5pm news hour with Natasha Barrett and on WUSA 9 at 6pm with Andrea McCarren as we work to encourage others to contribute to the cause. Geo Tech Companies Support Recovery efforts in Haiti

Foodies embrace Geo Spatial with a cool 100 Mile Challenge

What happens when you combine GeoSpatial thinking (and thinking) with Fooding?? Well, you get cool resources and Tweeters like @geokaren who has a cool, Geo/Foodie blog, (Note: Karen is also one of our featured Women of GIS/Geo Tech) but you also get very cool ideas like the 100 Mile Challenge, currently trending in Canada ala the Canadian Food Network http://100mile.foodtv.ca. The Challenge is encouraging foodies, and basically anyone who buys or eats food to make an effort to eat only foods grown, produced and sold within 100 miles of your home. A great idea that not only helps reduce the Carbon footprint, but also fosters more community thinking and will enourage a more healthy lifestyle and diet.. cool stuff!
