I’m penning this out of curiosity and as a small means of venting a little frustration at the lack of Twitter availability today – although, given it’s a free service to the community why would I have anything to gripe about?? I guess I’m curious to hear if others are having similar issues. For most of today I have no been able to access Twitter (not consistantly anyway) and the issues have been strange – i.e. not the familiar Twitter Fail Whale. The symptoms I’ve experienced for most of the day include:
– inability to post from PC (i.e. Web UI or Seesmic web client)
– I am able to browse Twitter streams and even see my own account, however, posting is not an option
– curiously, I do seem to be able to post and browse as usual via my mobile client (I use Gravity on Nokia S60)
– curiously, I’ve also experienced some intermitent facebook trouble today as well!
A little google search reveals to me that Twitter indeed has had trouble today, mostly in the form of a denial of service attack. According to PC World this morning’s trouble is not resulting in a fail whale sighting and the issue is affecting APIs as well – meaning 3rd party apps like Tweetdeck are also failing. I guess this should be a reminder to all that if you base your business model on a free service or someone else’s “open” APIs that you need to beware and plan for periodic failure. I’m curious to hear of anyone else’s trouble with twitter today… See PC World for more info
