Neverland Ranch is being auctioned off on Whatyourplace with the proceeeds being donated to charity – the German Red Cross. Recall this mashup allows users to bid on real estate (Virtually) — whatsyourplace.com is a Google Maps Mashup that allows user to stake a virtual claim on real places. Each place has its own URL together with virtual place profile. The land “owner” alone can edit this place profile with pictures, writings, weblinks, and geo-spots. Each place and the concept as such are worldwide unique. Hence, the winner of this auction will become the only owner of the Neverland Theme Park parcel and decide alone, how the place is represented online. The WhatsYourPlace Team hopes for a genuine fan or fan association to win the auction to develop the virtual parcel into an online memorial worthy for the King of Pop. whatsyourplace.com – frequently dubbed the “Facebook of Places” – is selling the real world in virtual terms, based on Google Maps.
