An interesting discussion has been unfolding over on TheGISForum. The topic was essentially, who’s going to the ESRI UC this year. What’s interesting is hearing from many people within government mostly, who seem to indicate that State funding for such training and travel has been cut off. Some of the interesting comments include:
- We could probably swing sending one person, but I agree with others here that it doesn’t look particularly good when other departments have cut travel and training to the bone.
- I work for a regional council of governments. Not me, nor anyone from my organization is going to ESRI, or anywhere else for that matter.
- I got the ok last year to go to the EdUC for 2009. It was even worked into the budget. However, now that we get to 2009, it has been cut.
- One person commented that it would be a great move if there was some live webcasts made available from the event! Indeed that would be very cool!
