An interesting tool available online at http://www.zonums.com/online/kml2shp.php enables users to input a KML/KMZ file, set a few parameters (projection, Datum etc…) and output a SHP file. The site also offers a few other translation tools as well like KML2CAD and Excel2KML as well as others.
