For the Geo Marketing and social media people.. how not to get love. I’ll never quite figure out how some “marketing” people work… I guess that would take several volumes to figure out. I made an interesting observation today though and it made me sit back and wonder about a company (Company X), why am I showing these people love (ie. via free exposure, links in, tweets and publicity) when I’m never getting any love back in return… an appropriate topic give Fed 14th is tomorrow. It turns out that said company seems to be on Twitter. I found it interesting that they reference and link in to several other GIS pubs very often, although never to GISuser (their choice I guess). But then it gets amusing when I think that I always receive their press releases (never a personal hello or other discussion enclosed, rather simply a “post this please”) and they also seem to eagerly take advantage or providing submissions for free links in to their website from our directory and other communal resources – my emails back to them regarding submissions always going unanswered… perhaps the next message I get will be something to the effect of “hey, where’s my link”? And so, a simple reminder… if you expect some love you need to show a little love…
Other Ways to show some Geo love… a blog mention, Tweet or Re-tweet (RT), a follow friday mention, a personal note sometimes within those auto emails (particualrly if you’re asking for something), mention their app in an article, citing someone as a source of inspiration.
