As you may know, I am Canadian and I live and work here in the USA. As a result, doing pretty much anything that any resident American takes for granted is typically a challenge… often playing out like a Seinfeld Episode! And so here I am starting another simple task (ya right)… and figured this time I would document my journey in an effort to entertain and maybe even help some other Canucks that will eventually have to deal with similar issues… and so, I begin the process to get a new passport.
To put into context, the Canadian government requires that I send them my passport application by mail (I’ll use a courier thanks) along with my existing passport… as luck would have it I’m sure I’ll be getting an invitation to Europe in the email any day now, likely several days after my passport ships off. But first, i must put together the proper docs and application. turns out the first obstacle is going to be getting passport photos that meet the CDN government requirements… indeed it just happens that USA passport photos are different that Canadian ones and so, going into Sams club to get them taken is not an options – I just tried that! Stay tuned… for now I’m off to start calling to see if there’s anyone in town that can create photos according to the very lengthy Canadian specs… ie. 2″ wide x 2 3/4″ high, NOT on heavy paper (whatever the $@#$$ that means), taklen by pro photog only with his stamp of info clearly on the back of ONE photo.. oh, and I love this one… “the length from chin to crown of head must be between 31mm and 36 mm. Stay tuned
